GET INVOLVED> Internships
Interns play a crucial role in the day to day life of Synapse.
Our program provides hands-on experience of what it means to run
a theatre company. It is NOT about stuffing envelopes or
making coffee -- it is a great opportunity to take on responsibility
and to make a significant difference in a successful company. The
descriptions below are merely suggestions and we are happy to customize
a flexible program to suit you.
Production Internships:
- Stage Management Interns work in all aspects of stage
management, with primary duties in the rehearsal room and as part
of the running crew. Some experience preferred.
- Scenic Artist Intern assists the Set Designer in the
painting and occasional sculpting of all scenic elements. Some
experience preferred.
- Properties Intern assists in all aspects of procuring
and creating props for a production. This may include carpentry,
sculpting, metalwork, sewing, upholstery, painting, drawing, and
research. Some experience preferred.
- Costumes Intern assists the Costume Designer with construction,
shopping for shows, and maintenance of stock, as well as assisting
with running crew and wardrobe maintenance.
- Puppetry Intern assists the Puppet Designers with construction
and maintenance of puppets for touring production of ANIMAL
FARM (the Puppet Musical).
- Electrics Intern assists the Lighting Designer/Master
Electrician with plotting, ordering, hanging and focus of lights.
Also assists with maintenance of equipment, and the running of
a show. Knowledge of computer lighting boards advantageous.
- Sound Intern assists the Sound Designer in maintaining
and installing equipment and with the running of each show.
Administrative and Artistic Internships:
- Development and Marketing Intern works with the Artistic
Director and participates in all fund-raising and marketing activities,
including: direct mail campaigns, special events, funding research,
day-to-day booking and acknowledgement of gifts, and public relations.
Requires an outgoing personality and solid writing skills.
- Literary Intern works with Literary Associate/Dramaturg
on research in support of productions. Assists in development
of educational and outreach materials, including: study guides,
lobby displays, program notes and newsletters. Requires excellent
organizational, writing, and communication skills, as well as
a strong background in dramatic literature.
- Company Management Intern assists the Associate Director
with all aspects of company management, including contracts, travel
arrangements and accommodations for our touring productions, auditions,
and management of facilities. Requires excellent organizational
and communication skills and a warm personality.
Interns are extended staff benefits for all shows and events,
and are invited to observe rehearsals, production and administrative
