We started rehearsals for Bloody Poetry in the first week
of September 2001. By the second week the world had changed. As
we wrestled with the question of whether the show really must go
on, our determined group of actors and designers breathed new meaning
into the play. The end result was a stirring re-assertion of humankind's
enduring need for creative expression and cultivation of the imagination.
Even on nights when we played to only a handful of people in our
downtown theatre, we could sense that the future wasn't bleak. There
was an electricity in the air and an almost palpable sense of camaraderie
between the actors and the audience. The special magic that comes
with the shared experience of live theatre was charging through
the house, and on these nights we were bolstered in our belief that
the artist's deepest responsibility is to inspire others to live
their lives in a more fulfilling, connected, thoughtful and sensitive
way. Thank you to all of you who made it to see the show!
