Board News: Vallejo
Gantner Joins Synapse
Welcome!

Dear Friends,
Synapse produces plays that entertain while challenging the way we think about the world. This season we're pleased to share with you a couple of our smash hit shows which are returning for a limited run, and an exciting New York Premiere.
THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD is back by popular demand! Critics and audiences raved about this humorous tale of gentrification that played to sold-out houses in May. We are delighted to welcome Deanna Pacelli back onstage to perform the show on Monday evenings, now through November 7th.
ANIMAL FARM (the Puppet Musical) also returns, but as an eight-city national tour--a Synapse first! The tour kicks off in November with three special performances in New York City.
In February, we present the New York premiere of Barbara Hammond's gorgeous love story NORMAN & BEATRICE: A Marriage in Two Acts. A moving portrait of fifty years of marriage, the play celebrates the daily heroism-the tenderness, the patience, the humor and the love-required to cope with the challenge of growing old together.
We look forward to seeing you at the theatre soon!
Ginevra Bull
Artistic Director

November 18, 19 & 20

Animal Farm - Directed by David Travis
The national tour of ANIMAL FARM is ready to hit the road. After nearly two years of planning, we are thrilled to announce that our Drama Desk Award-nominated production will visit eight cities and be seen by more than 20,000 people this season!
The tour starts in New York City with 3 special performances on November 18th, 19th and 20th, giving you one more chance to visit the Barnyard.
DON'T MISS IT!
"ANIMAL FARM hits the bull's eye!"
- Time Out New York
FOR NYC ONLY
Our sold-out run of THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD at Performance Space 122 was a hit with audiences and critics alike.
Compared to the work of Anna Deavere Smith and the narrative style of Spike Lee, the play offers a humorous insider's look at the phenomenon of gentrification, and explores today's urban American melting pot by showing how one Italian working-class neighborhood went from "crack to baguettes" in less than a decade.
We are delighted to have Deanna Pacelli return for seven performances at Under St. Marks, now through November 7th.
If you weren't able to join us at PS122, now's your chance. . .

Go see this play."

SYNAPSE WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBER
We recently welcomed Australian-born director Vallejo Gantner to the Synapse Board of Directors. Vallejo directed Synapse's 2002 production of BRER RABBIT before heading to Ireland where he assumed the role of Artistic Director of the Dublin Fringe Festival.
Hailed as a "bright young creative entrepreneur" Vallejo recently returned to New York to become the Artistic Director of Performance Space 122, one of New York's leading presenters of experimental and innovative theatre and dance.

SPRING GALA 2005
THANK YOU! With your help, the Sixth Annual Synapse Spring Gala proved to be a fun-filled and glamorous evening. On June 15th we returned to Pier 63 with over 200 friends who joined the celebration and helped Synapse raise over $20,000!
The Gala included performances from the New Orleans-style Jazz band Ma Skillet and the Funky Fritters, and featured the wit and wisdom of author, actor and commentator Charles Grodin.
Thanks go out to our incomparable host committee, our many food sponsors, Boru Vodka, Bass Ale, and the folks at Pier 63. Special thanks to Trey Beck, Mr. & Mrs. James W.
