PERFORMANCE SPACE 122
150 FIRST AVE. AT 9TH ST.
We continue this season's theme of "clashing cultures" with an original New York tale. There Goes The Neighborhood offers a humorous insider's look at the phenomenon of gentrification in New York City.
Based on interviews conducted by performer Deanna Pacelli and writer Mari Brown over a two-year period, the play uses the diverse voices of ten very different neighbors - including an
Italian deli owner, a Latina teenager, a gay yuppie activist, a hip-hop DJ and an Asian nightclub owner - to explain how a once Italian working-class community went from "crack to baguettes" in less than a decade.
The subject of a New York Times feature article, There Goes The Neighborhood is a comic tes-tament to the endurance of community.

THE GOD BOTHERERS: In Review
In March, Synapse presented the American Premiere of Richard Been's play, THE GOD BOTHERERS, at 59E59 Theaters, directed by David Travis. Supported by our talented design team, the extraordinary cast (Heidi Armbruster, Michael Warner, Kola Ogundiran and Tinashe Kajese) brought Bean's fascinating story to life with enormous passion and humor.
Alongside the production, Synapse hosted weekly TalkBacks that included live teleconferences with foreign aid workers in Afghanistan and Rwanda, sparking conversations with the audience and cast.
Here's what the critics had to say:

THE CHALLENGE CONTINUES!
Double your money!

The William and Mary Greve Foundation has once again offered Synapse a challenge: If we raise $40,000 in contributions by June 1, 2005, every donation will be matched by the foundation. Which means that every single dollar you give will be doubled! (all donations are fully tax-deductible.)

NOW IS THE TIME to double the impact of your gift. Contributions of all sizes are welcome; since December 1st, when the challenge was announced, we have raised more than $25,000! It’s a great start, but we still have a way to go!

THANK YOU for helping us meet this exciting challenge and for your commitment to supporting the work we create; we couldn't do what we do without friends like you behind the scenes!
