2005
Dear Friends,
Following the success of our uptown production of THE
GOD BOTHERERS, our season continues, back in the East Village,
with THERE
GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD at the venerable Performance Space
122 (PS122).
The name PS122 is synonymous with ground-breaking, adventurous performance;
an impressive roster of artists have launched their careers there
(including Spalding Gray, John Leguizamo and Eric Bogosian). It
is the perfect venue for Synapse to showcase the talents of playwright
Mari Brown and performer Deanna Pacelli.
THERE
GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD offers a poignant and witty depiction
of the urban American melting pot. On one level the play explores
how a once Italian working-class community went from “crack to baguettes”
in less than a decade, but to a greater extent, the neighborhood
serves as a microcosm for modern-day America.
The play reminds us that whether we are old or young, black, white
or “other,” whether we are born here or not, we are all much more
connected than we realize. I hope you will join us.
See you at the theatre!
Ginevra
